Eurojackpot Records: How the Maximum Prize Rose from €90m to €120m
A historical data guide | Lottomaster
Eurojackpot began in March 2012. Its maximum jackpot is now €120 million, but until March 2022 the limit was €90 million. The change affected both the headline prize and the mathematics of the game.
2012–2022: The €90 million era
The first Eurojackpot draw took place on 23 March 2012. For many years, the jackpot was capped at €90 million. At the game's tenth anniversary in March 2022, organisers introduced Tuesday draws alongside Friday draws and raised the maximum jackpot to €120 million.
2022: New rules and record wins
From 25 March 2022, the Euro-number pool changed from two out of ten to two out of twelve. This increased the number of possible combinations and changed jackpot odds from roughly 1 in 95 million to 1 in 139,838,160. A larger maximum jackpot therefore came with longer jackpot odds.
On 20 May 2022, a ticket from North Rhine-Westphalia won approximately €110.2 million. The first €120 million jackpot win followed in Denmark on 22 July 2022. Another €120 million jackpot was won in Berlin on 8 November 2022.
More €120 million winners
Officially documented examples include 23 June 2023 (Germany), 16 January 2024 (Norway), 4 June 2024 (Denmark), 9 May 2025 (Germany), 23 September 2025 (Germany) and 26 May 2026 (Czechia). These are selected top-prize wins, not a list of every draw in which the advertised jackpot reached its cap.
What happens when the cap is reached?
A capped jackpot cannot increase without limit. Under the published Eurojackpot rules, money above the maximum is redirected to lower prize tiers. The advertised jackpot therefore does not tell us how many tickets will win or which numbers will be drawn.
How to read historical statistics responsibly
A record win is a documented event, not a clue to future results. Lottomaster's draw histories and frequency tools help visitors compare past periods. When analysing results across 2022, it is especially important to account for the Euro-number rule change: the pool before and after March 2022 is not identical.
